A letter to Madam Wang:
Dear Madam Wang
Last night, in front of the television, was seeing your strength, your bravery. At this sorrowful moment, you spoke out articulately of your thoughts and wanted everyone to remember there is still good side of the society. I believe, many of them got red eyes.
My mood saddens. However, I understand, at this moment, anyone who says they identify the situation cannot soothe you. Because this kind of thing, unless undergoing personally, it will be difficult to feel how heavy that sorrow is. Today, every parents who send their kids to school all hold their hands tightly, like let go for every second, the kids will be in a tremendous danger. I felt doleful, even committed.
Your appeal, I have heard. Our society has some problem and our society also got hurt. I won’t only have broken heart and grief, and I won’t, either, only have anger. What should be done after the anger? I already have the answer.
There are many holes on our social safety net. My duty is making every marginalized individual who may possibly fall out the net to be caught by this net, to receive fair education, to have stable job, to lead normal life.
I will make every effort to fill up the holes, and work double hard on zero drugs, child and teen safety, police forces, mental health and mental treatment. This is an arduous task that I am going to help you and all of the Taiwanese families.
Pardon me for writing this letter to you, hope it won’t disturb you. I understand you don’t want to be bothered. This letter, you don’t have to reply, just taking good care of your family. If there is any need, we will stand by you.
There are many imperfections in the world, yet among these imperfections, there’s still the belief of goodness remaining, which is the most effulgent attribute within humanity. You did it, other things, let us accomplish for you.
Kind Regards,
Tsai, Ing-wen
